Decision making is regarded as a main feature of managerial activity. A considerable amount of research activity has been undertaken that aims to enhance understanding and to improve on the decision-making process within organizational settings. This research has been paralleled by a technological response in the development of information and communication technology that is heralded by many for its potential for improving decision making in terms of efficiency and effectiveness. The complex nature of decision making within organizations is examined, along with the extent to which computer systems may provide effective managerial support in the face of increasing organizational complexity. Decision structures may be imposed through the computer system that may result in an organizational culture in which absolute conformity is demanded and cultivated, if the justification of norms is precluded and individual identity is disregarded.
